Of course a list of best U.S. cities for visit at Christmastime has to start with New York! Having said that, know that it won’t be easy on your wallet…so I’ve added a few other place that might be more ‘budget’ friendly.
New York City, New York – Famous for its holiday decorations, especially the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree and the light displays along 5th Avenue. The Holiday Markets in Bryant Park and Union Square are a must-visit for festive shopping.
Consider a visit to Leavenworth, Washington – A Bavarian-style village that transforms into a winter wonderland during the holiday season. It’s filled with lights, Christmas markets, and a cozy, small-town atmosphere .
You’ve got to watch the weather on this one but Chicago, Illinois – Known for its Christkindl market and spectacular lights along Michigan Avenue. You can also visit the Lincoln Park Zoo for the ZooLights show.
San Diego, California – Although way warmer, San Diego celebrates in unique ways, such as ice skating by the beach, a visit from Surfin’ Santa, and the beautiful December Nights festival in Balboa Park.
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania don’t miss the Christmas Village at LOVE Park, famous for its European-style market, and you can enjoy the stunning light shows at Dilworth Park and Macy’s.
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Known for Winterfest, where millions of lights transform the city into a holiday spectacle. The Winterfest Driving Tour is a highlight.
Atlanta, Georgia. The Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Garden Lights, Holiday Nights is a must-see, with whimsical light displays and an accompanying music show
Santa Claus, Indiana. As you’d expect, this town takes Christmas seriously, with a holiday light display telling the story of Rudolph at Santa Claus Land of Lights.
Solvang California is also a lovely little town to visit at Christmastime, with their year-round Christmas store, quaint shops and delicious pastries. These cities offer a mix of beautiful lights, festive markets, and family-friendly activities, making them perfect for a Christmas getaway.
